Solution
1. Preparation
  • Gather all necessary tools and parts.
  • Ensure the vehicle is parked on a level surface and the parking brake is engaged.
  • Wear safety glasses and gloves.
2. Lift the Vehicle
  • Use a jack to lift the vehicle from the designated lift points.
  • Secure the vehicle with jack stands for safety.
3. Remove the Wheel
  • Use a socket set to loosen and remove the lug nuts.
  • Take off the wheel to gain access to the shock absorber.
4. Remove the Shock Absorber
  • Upper Mounting Bolts: Access the top of the shock absorber from the engine bay or trunk, depending on model specifics. Use the appropriate socket to remove the upper mounting bolts.
  • Lower Mounting Bolts: At the lower end of the shock, remove the bolts securing it to the control arm or axle.
  • Carefully pull the shock absorber out of the mounting brackets.
5. Install New Shock Absorber
  • Position the new shock absorber into the lower mount and secure it with the bolts. Torque to manufacturer specifications (typically around 30-40 Nm, but verify).
  • Insert the top of the shock into its mount and secure it with the upper bolts, torquing them as specified in the repair manual.
6. Reinstall the Wheel
  • Place the wheel back onto the hub, hand-tightening the lug nuts.
  • Lower the vehicle off the jack stands and then fully tighten the lug nuts in a criss-cross pattern to the specified torque (usually around 120 Nm).
7. Final Inspection
  • Check the shock absorber installation for proper alignment.
  • Ensure all tools are removed from the work area.
