Solution
1. Preparation
  • Tools Required: Jack, jack stands, lug wrench, socket set, torque wrench, flashlight.
  • Ensure the vehicle is parked on a level surface and the parking brake is engaged.
  • Wear safety glasses and gloves.
2. Lift the Vehicle
  • Loosen the lug nuts on the wheels (do not remove them).
  • Use the jack to lift the vehicle and then secure it on jack stands.
  • Remove the lug nuts and wheels for better access to the struts.
3. Remove the Struts
  • Front Struts:

    1. Disconnect the sway bar link from the strut using the appropriate socket.
    2. Remove the bolts securing the strut to the steering knuckle.
    3. Locate and remove the top mounting nuts inside the engine bay (may require removing the engine cover).
    4. Carefully remove the strut from the vehicle.
  • Rear Struts:

    1. Remove any trim panels covering the strut top mounts in the trunk.
    2. Disconnect the sway bar link from the strut.
    3. Remove the bolts securing the strut to the rear spindle.
    4. Remove the top mounting nuts from the trunk area.
    5. Carefully extract the strut from the vehicle.
4. Inspect and Replace
  • Inspect the removed struts for signs of wear, such as oil leakage or bent components.
  • If replacement is needed, install new struts by reversing the removal steps:
    1. Position the new strut in place and secure the top mount bolts.
    2. Reconnect the strut to the steering knuckle or rear spindle.
    3. Reattach the sway bar links.
    4. Ensure all bolts are torqued to the manufacturer’s specifications (check service manual for torque values).
5. Reassemble and Lower Vehicle
  • Reinstall the wheels and lug nuts (hand-tighten).
  • Lower the vehicle off the jack stands and torque the lug nuts to the manufacturer’s specifications.
  • Reinstall any trim panels removed during the process.
