Solution
1. Preparation
  • Tools Required: Jack and jack stands, lug wrench, socket set, torque wrench, brake cleaner, C-clamp or brake piston tool, new brake pads, gloves, and safety glasses.
  • Park the vehicle on a flat surface and ensure the engine is off.
  • Wear gloves and safety glasses to protect yourself during the procedure.
2. Lift the Vehicle
  • Use a lug wrench to slightly loosen the lug nuts on the front wheels.
  • Position the jack under the vehicle's jacking points and lift the vehicle.
  • Securely place jack stands under the vehicle for safety.
  • Fully remove the lug nuts and take off the front wheels.
3. Remove the Brake Caliper
  • Locate the caliper mounting bolts and remove them using the appropriate socket.
  • Gently slide the caliper off the brake rotor. Do not let it hang by the brake line; use a bungee cord or rope to suspend it.
4. Replace Brake Pads
  • Remove the old brake pads from the caliper bracket.
  • Use a C-clamp or brake piston tool to compress the caliper piston back into the caliper housing to make room for the new pads.
  • Clean the caliper bracket and surrounding area with brake cleaner.
  • Install the new brake pads into the caliper bracket, ensuring they are properly seated.
5. Reassemble the Brake System
  • Reposition the brake caliper over the new brake pads and rotor.
  • Reinstall the caliper mounting bolts and torque them to the manufacturer’s specifications (typically around 25-30 Nm).
  • Reinstall the front wheels and hand-tighten the lug nuts.
6. Lower the Vehicle
  • Carefully remove the jack stands and lower the vehicle back to the ground.
  • Once on the ground, use the torque wrench to fully tighten the lug nuts to the proper torque specification (usually about 120 Nm).
