Solution
1. Preparation
  • Gather tools and materials.
  • Disconnect the vehicle battery to prevent electrical shorts.
  • Allow the fuel system to depressurize by removing the fuel pump relay or fuse.
2. Remove Fuel Pump Assembly
  • Tools Required: Socket set, flathead screwdriver, safety glasses, gloves.
  • Locate the access panel for the fuel pump in the trunk or under the rear seat.
  • Remove the access panel using a socket set.
  • Disconnect the electrical connector and fuel lines from the fuel pump assembly.
  • Remove the retaining ring with a flathead screwdriver and lift the fuel pump assembly out of the tank.
3. Inspect and Replace Fuel Sender Unit
  • Carefully inspect the fuel sender for any signs of damage or corrosion.
  • If damaged, remove the old fuel sender from the assembly.
  • Install the new fuel sender unit carefully, ensuring it is seated correctly.
  • Reinstall the fuel pump assembly into the tank, securing it with the retaining ring.
4. Reconnect and Test
  • Reconnect the fuel lines and electrical connectors to the fuel pump assembly.
  • Replace the access panel securely.
  • Reconnect the vehicle battery and clear any stored error codes using the OBD-II scanner.
  • Start the engine and check for leaks around the fuel pump area.
