Solution
1. Preparation
  • Gather tools and parts required for the repair.
  • Disconnect the vehicle battery to ensure safety while working on electrical components.
2. Remove the Oxygen Sensor
  • Use a socket wrench with an O2 sensor socket to carefully remove the faulty upstream O2 sensor.
  • Disconnect the wiring harness connector from the sensor.
3. Inspect and Clean
  • Inspect the O2 sensor threads and mounting area for any carbon buildup or damage.
  • If necessary, clean the exhaust manifold threads gently using a wire brush.
4. Install New O2 Sensor
  • Apply anti-seize compound to the threads of the new O2 sensor (if not pre-applied).
  • Install the new O2 sensor into the exhaust manifold or downpipe and tighten it using a torque wrench to the manufacturer's specified torque (usually 30 Nm).
  • Reconnect the wiring harness connector to the new O2 sensor.
5. Reconnect Battery and Clear Codes
  • Reconnect the vehicle battery.
  • Use the OBD-II scanner to clear the P0136 code from the vehicle's computer.
6. Test Drive
  • Start the vehicle and allow it to reach operating temperature.
  • Take the vehicle for a test drive to ensure proper operation of the new O2 sensor and check if the check engine light remains off.
