Solution
1. Preparation
  • Gather tools and parts.
  • Disconnect the battery to prevent electrical shorts during the repair.
  • Ensure the vehicle is on a level surface and secure it with wheel chocks.
2. Replace Air Filter
  • Remove the air filter cover by unscrewing or unclipping it.
  • Take out the old air filter and inspect the housing for debris.
  • Install a new air filter, ensuring it fits snugly in the housing.
  • Reattach the air filter cover securely.
3. Replace Spark Plugs
  • Remove the ignition coil(s) by unbolting and disconnecting the electrical connectors.
  • Unscrew the old spark plugs using a socket and ratchet.
  • Apply anti-seize compound to the threads of the new spark plugs and install them, torquing to the manufacturer’s specification (typically around 13-15 ft-lbs).
  • Reinstall the ignition coil(s) and reconnect electrical connectors.
4. Clean or Replace MAF Sensor
  • Disconnect the MAF sensor electrical connector and unscrew it from the intake.
  • If cleaning, use MAF sensor cleaner and follow the instructions on the cleaner.
  • If replacing, install the new MAF sensor and reconnect the electrical connector.
5. Test Fuel Pressure
  • Locate the fuel pressure test port and connect the fuel pressure gauge.
  • Start the engine and observe the fuel pressure; it should meet manufacturer specifications (usually between 50-60 psi for the MK7).
  • If pressure is low, inspect the fuel pump and filter for issues.
