Solution
1. Preparation
  • Gather tools and required parts.
  • Ensure the vehicle is on a flat surface and secure it with wheel chocks.
  • Disconnect the negative battery terminal.
  • Tools Required: Jack, jack stands, socket set, wrench set, ball joint separator, torque wrench, grease gun.
2. Remove the Wheel
  • Loosen the lug nuts on the front wheel using a lug wrench.
  • Lift the vehicle with a jack and support it on jack stands.
  • Remove the lug nuts completely and take off the wheel.
3. Disconnect the Ball Joint
  • Locate the ball joint and remove the cotter pin using pliers.
  • Use a socket to remove the nut from the ball joint stud.
  • Use a ball joint separator to detach the ball joint from the control arm. If necessary, strike the separator with a hammer to loosen it.
4. Remove the Ball Joint
  • If the ball joint is pressed into the control arm, remove the control arm from the vehicle using appropriate sockets and wrenches.
  • Press the old ball joint out of the control arm using a ball joint press or suitable tool.
5. Install the New Ball Joint
  • Align the new ball joint with the control arm and press it in carefully.
  • Reinstall the control arm back onto the vehicle if removed.
  • Secure the ball joint with the nut, and insert a new cotter pin to secure it.
6. Reassemble the Suspension
  • Reattach any suspension components that were removed.
  • Reinstall the wheel onto the hub, hand-tighten the lug nuts.
  • Lower the vehicle back to the ground and fully tighten the lug nuts to the manufacturer’s specified torque.
7. Final Checks
  • Reconnect the negative battery terminal.
  • Use a grease gun to lubricate the new ball joint if it has a grease fitting.
