Solution
1. Preparation
  • Tools Required:
    • Jack and jack stands
    • Socket set
    • Wrench set
    • Strut spring compressor
    • Torque wrench
    • Screwdrivers
  • Ensure the vehicle is parked on a level surface and the engine is off.
2. Lift the Vehicle
  • Use a jack to lift the front or rear of the vehicle, depending on which struts are being replaced.
  • Secure the vehicle on jack stands.
3. Remove the Wheel
  • Using a socket set, remove the lug nuts on the wheel corresponding to the strut you are replacing.
  • Take off the wheel and set it aside.
4. Remove the Strut Assembly
  • Front Struts:

    1. Remove the lower strut mounting bolts using the socket set.
    2. Disconnect the sway bar link from the strut.
    3. Remove the upper strut mounting nuts from the engine bay (may require access through the hood).
  • Rear Struts:

    1. Remove the lower strut mounting bolts from the control arm.
    2. Remove the upper strut mounting bolts from the trunk area.
5. Compress the Strut Spring
  • Place the strut in a spring compressor.
  • Evenly tighten the compressor to safely compress the spring before proceeding to remove it.
6. Replace the Strut
  • With the spring compressed, remove the top nut of the strut using a socket.
  • Carefully take off the spring and any isolators from the old strut.
  • Install the spring and isolators onto the new strut and secure them with the top nut.
7. Reinstall the Strut Assembly
  • Position the new strut assembly back into the vehicle.
  • Reattach the upper and lower strut mounting bolts, and torque them to the manufacturer’s specifications (typically between 40-60 ft-lbs).
  • Reconnect the sway bar link if applicable.
8. Reattach the Wheel
  • Place the wheel back on the hub and hand-tighten the lug nuts.
  • Lower the vehicle from the jack stands and then torque the lug nuts to the specified value (usually around 80-100 ft-lbs).
9. Repeat for Other Strut
  • If replacing all struts, repeat steps 4 to 8 for the remaining strut(s).
10. Final Inspection
  • Ensure all bolts are properly torqued and check for any loose components.
