Solution
1. Preparation
  • Tools Required: Socket set, torque wrench, camshaft alignment tool, OBD-II scanner, oil catch pan, engine hoist (if necessary).
  • Disconnect the battery to prevent electrical shorts.
  • Drain engine oil into an oil catch pan.
2. Remove Engine Components
  • Remove the engine cover by unscrewing any bolts and lifting it off.
  • Detach the intake manifold:
    • Remove all vacuum hoses and electrical connectors.
    • Unscrew the bolts securing the manifold and lift it off gently.
  • Remove the timing belt/chain cover:
    • Unscrew all securing bolts and detach the cover.
3. Remove Timing Belt/Chain
  • Use a camshaft alignment tool to lock the camshaft in place.
  • Loosen and remove the tensioner and idler pulleys.
  • Remove the timing belt/chain from the camshaft gear.
4. Replace Camshaft
  • Unscrew the camshaft bearing caps using a torque wrench to avoid damaging the caps.
  • Carefully lift the old camshaft out of the engine.
  • Clean the bearing surfaces with a suitable solvent.
  • Install the new camshaft by reversing the removal process:
    • Lubricate the new camshaft with engine oil.
    • Place the new camshaft in position and install the bearing caps, tightening to the manufacturer’s torque specifications.
5. Reassemble Engine Components
  • Reinstall the timing belt/chain, ensuring correct tension.
  • Reattach the timing belt/chain cover and ensure all bolts are secured.
  • Reinstall the intake manifold and reconnect all hoses and electrical connectors.
  • Place the engine cover back on and secure with bolts.
6. Final Steps
  • Refill engine oil to the appropriate level.
  • Reconnect the battery.
  • Start the engine and check for leaks or unusual noises.
