1. Preparation

  • Locate the upstream oxygen sensor (bank 1 sensor 1) on the exhaust manifold.
  • Use a socket wrench with an oxygen sensor socket to unscrew and remove the sensor.
  • Carefully disconnect the wiring harness from the sensor.
3. Inspect and Clean
  • Inspect the oxygen sensor connector for any corrosion or damage; replace if necessary.
  • Clean the threads of the oxygen sensor port on the exhaust manifold with a wire brush to remove any debris.
4. Install New Oxygen Sensor
  • Apply anti-seize compound to the threads of the new oxygen sensor (if not pre-coated).
  • Screw the new oxygen sensor into the exhaust manifold by hand, then tighten it with the oxygen sensor socket to manufacturer specifications (usually around 30 Nm).
