Solution
1. Preparation
  • Safety First: Park the vehicle on a flat surface, engage the parking brake, and wear safety goggles.
  • Tools Required:
    • Jack and jack stands
    • Socket set
    • Torque wrench
    • Strut spring compressor
    • Flathead screwdriver
    • Impact wrench (optional)
  • Parts Required:
    • Replacement struts (front or rear as needed)
    • Strut mounts and bearings (recommended for replacement)
    • New strut bolts (if applicable)
2. Raise the Vehicle
  • Loosen the wheel lug nuts slightly.
  • Use the jack to lift the vehicle and secure it with jack stands.
  • Remove the wheels to access the struts.
3. Remove the Strut Assembly
  • Front Struts:

    1. Disconnect the sway bar link from the strut using a socket set.
    2. Remove the brake line bracket from the strut.
    3. Unbolt the strut from the steering knuckle (typically requires an impact wrench).
    4. Remove the upper strut mounting nuts from the engine bay using a socket.
    5. Carefully pull the strut assembly out of its mount.
  • Rear Struts:

    1. Remove the rear seat or trim to access the top strut mounts.
    2. Unbolt the top strut mount from inside the vehicle.
    3. Disconnect any brake line brackets and sway bar links if applicable.
    4. Remove the strut from the lower control arm.
4. Replace the Strut
  1. Strut Compression: Use a strut spring compressor to safely compress the spring on the old strut.
  2. Remove the old strut from the spring and replace it with the new strut.
  3. Reassemble the strut spring and ensure all components are properly seated.
  4. Reinstall the top mount and ensure the strut is secured tightly.
5. Reinstall the Strut Assembly
  • Position the strut back into its mount and secure it with the upper mounting nuts.
  • Reattach the strut to the steering knuckle or lower control arm.
  • Reconnect the sway bar link and any brake line brackets.
6. Reassemble and Lower Vehicle
  • Reinstall the wheels and hand-tighten the lug nuts.
  • Lower the vehicle from the jack stands and torque the lug nuts to the manufacturer's specifications.
  • Perform a final inspection of all components for proper installation.
