Solution
1. Preparation
  • Gather necessary tools and parts.
  • Ensure the vehicle is parked on a level surface and the engine is off.
  • Use wheel chocks to prevent movement.
2. Inspect CV Joints
  • Tools Required: Socket set, pry bar, torque wrench
  • Remove the wheel to access the CV joint.
  • Visually inspect the outer CV joint for any cracks or tears in the boot.
  • Apply pressure with a pry bar to check for play in the joint.
  • If damaged, proceed to replace the outer CV joint.
3. Replace Outer CV Joint
  • Remove the axle nut using a socket wrench.
  • Disconnect the CV joint from the wheel hub.
  • Slide the old CV joint off the axle shaft.
  • Apply new grease to the new CV joint and install it onto the axle shaft.
  • Reattach the CV joint to the wheel hub and torque the axle nut to manufacturer specifications.
4. Inspect and Replace Suspension Components
  • Tools Required: Socket set, jack and jack stands
  • Check all suspension components for wear or damage, particularly struts and bushings.
  • If any components are worn, remove the damaged parts and replace them with new ones.
  • Ensure all bolts are torqued to the manufacturer's specifications.
5. Test Drive
  • Reinstall the wheel and lower the vehicle.
  • Take the vehicle for a test drive to ensure the popping sound has been resolved.
