Solution
1. Preparation
  • Gather necessary tools and parts.
  • Disconnect the vehicle battery to ensure safety while working on electrical components.
2. Inspect and Replace Fuse
  • Locate the fuse box; refer to the owner’s manual for the specific fuse related to the fuel gauge.
  • Remove the fuse and check if it is blown; replace it with a new fuse of the same amperage if necessary.
3. Access Fuel Sender Unit
  • Lift the vehicle using a jack and secure it on jack stands.
  • Remove any protective covers or panels to gain access to the fuel tank.
  • Disconnect the electrical connector from the fuel sender unit located on top of the fuel tank.
4. Test and Replace Fuel Sender Unit
  • Measure the resistance of the fuel sender using a multimeter. The resistance should change smoothly as the float moves.
  • If the resistance is inconsistent or out of specification, replace the fuel sender unit.
  • To replace, remove the locking ring or screws holding the sender in place, lift out the old sender, and install the new one in reverse order.
5. Reassemble and Reconnect
  • Reconnect the electrical connector to the new fuel sender unit.
  • Reinstall any covers or panels removed during access.
  • Lower the vehicle back to the ground and reconnect the battery.
