Solution
1. Preparation
  • Tools Required: Jack and jack stands, socket set, wrench set, torque wrench, grease gun, U-joint removal tool.
  • Ensure the vehicle is on a flat surface and the parking brake is engaged.
  • Disconnect the battery to prevent electrical hazards.
2. Raise the Vehicle
  • Using a jack, lift the rear of the vehicle and secure it with jack stands.
  • Ensure the vehicle is stable before proceeding to work underneath.
3. Remove Driveshaft
  • Sub-steps:
    • Mark the position of the driveshaft for reinstallation alignment.
    • Remove the bolts securing the driveshaft to the differential and transmission using the socket set.
    • Carefully slide the driveshaft out of the U-joint connection.
4. Inspect and Replace U-joint
  • Sub-steps:
    • Inspect the U-joint for any excessive play or damage.
    • If replacement is necessary, use the U-joint removal tool to extract the old U-joint from the driveshaft.
    • Clean the U-joint sockets on the driveshaft before installation.
5. Install New U-joint
  • Sub-steps:
    • Apply grease to the new U-joint's bearing cups.
    • Insert the new U-joint into the driveshaft and ensure it is seated properly.
    • Reinstall the retaining clips to secure the U-joint in place.
6. Reattach Driveshaft
  • Sub-steps:
    • Align the driveshaft according to the previously marked position.
    • Reinstall the bolts and torque them to the manufacturer’s specifications (typically around 29-37 lb-ft).
