Solution
1. Preparation
  • Tools Required: Socket set, torque wrench, brake pad spreader, jack and jack stands, wheel chocks, brake cleaner, gloves, safety goggles.
  • Ensure the vehicle is parked on a flat surface and the ignition is off.
  • Disconnect the battery if required for safety.
2. Remove the Wheel
  • Loosen the lug nuts slightly while the wheel is still on the ground.
  • Use a jack to lift the vehicle and secure it with jack stands.
  • Remove the lug nuts completely and take off the wheel to expose the brake assembly.
3. Remove the Brake Caliper
  • Locate the caliper bolts and use the socket set to remove them.
  • Carefully slide the caliper off the brake rotor. Do not let the caliper hang by the brake line; support it with a bungee cord or similar tool.
4. Replace the Brake Pads
  • Remove the old brake pads from the caliper bracket. Note the orientation of the pads for installation of the new ones.
  • Use the brake pad spreader to compress the caliper piston back into its housing, creating space for the new pads.
  • Install the new brake pads into the caliper bracket, ensuring they are correctly positioned.
5. Reinstall the Brake Caliper
  • Carefully slide the caliper back over the new brake pads and rotor.
  • Reinstall and tighten the caliper bolts securely to the manufacturer’s torque specifications (typically around 30 Nm, but refer to the specific service manual for your model).
6. Reattach the Wheel
  • Place the wheel back onto the hub and hand-tighten the lug nuts.
  • Lower the vehicle from the jack stands and tighten the lug nuts to the manufacturer’s torque specification (typically around 120 Nm).
7. Final Checks
  • Reconnect the battery if it was disconnected.
  • Pump the brake pedal several times to seat the new pads against the rotors.
  • Check the brake fluid level again and top off if necessary.
