Solution
1. Preparation
  • Gather tools and materials, including a socket set, screwdrivers, fuel line disconnect tool, and a torque wrench.
  • Ensure the vehicle is parked on a flat surface and the engine is cool.
  • Disconnect the negative battery terminal to prevent electrical shock.
2. Relieve Fuel System Pressure
  • Locate the fuel pump fuse in the fuse box and remove it.
  • Start the engine and let it run until it stalls to relieve pressure in the fuel lines.
  • Turn off the ignition.
3. Access the Fuel Pump
  • Remove the rear seat cushion if applicable to access the fuel pump access panel.
  • Unscrew the access panel cover and disconnect any electrical connectors.
4. Remove the Fuel Pump
  • Disconnect the fuel lines using a fuel line disconnect tool, ensuring to catch any spilled fuel in a container.
  • Unbolt the fuel pump assembly from the tank using the appropriate socket.
  • Carefully lift the fuel pump assembly out of the tank, being cautious of the fuel level float arm.
5. Install the New Fuel Pump
  • Remove the old fuel pump from the assembly and replace it with the new pump, ensuring the orientation is correct.
  • Reinstall the fuel pump assembly back into the tank, securing it with the bolts to the specified torque.
  • Reconnect the fuel lines and electrical connectors.
6. Reassemble and Test
  • Replace the access panel and the rear seat cushion.
  • Reinstall the fuel pump fuse into the fuse box.
  • Reconnect the negative battery terminal.
  • Turn the ignition to the "ON" position for a few seconds to prime the fuel system, then start the engine to confirm proper operation.
