Solution
1. Preparation
  • Gather tools and parts.
  • Ensure the vehicle is parked on a level surface and engage the parking brake.
  • Wear appropriate safety gear.
  • Tools Required: Jack, jack stands, socket set, torque wrench, strut spring compressor, pry bar, and a torque wrench.
2. Lift the Vehicle
  • Use a jack to raise the front or rear end of the vehicle, depending on which struts are being replaced.
  • Secure the vehicle with jack stands before beginning work.
3. Remove the Wheel
  • Use a socket set to remove the lug nuts and take off the wheel to access the strut assembly.
4. Disconnect the Strut Assembly
  • Remove the bolts securing the strut to the steering knuckle using a socket set.
  • Disconnect any brake line or sensor attached to the strut (if applicable).
  • Remove the nuts from the top of the strut tower in the engine bay using a socket set. Note the order of components removed for reassembly.
5. Remove the Strut
  • Carefully pull the strut assembly out from the vehicle. Use a pry bar if necessary to help detach it from the steering knuckle.
6. Replace the Strut Cartridge
  • Use a strut spring compressor to compress the spring on the old strut.
  • Remove the top nut of the strut mount to release the spring and mount from the strut cartridge.
  • Install the new strut cartridge by reversing the removal steps. Ensure the spring and mount are properly seated.
7. Reinstall the Strut Assembly
  • Position the new strut assembly back into place.
  • Secure it to the steering knuckle with bolts and torque them according to the manufacturer specifications.
  • Reattach any brake lines or sensors that were disconnected.
8. Reassemble the Vehicle
  • Replace the top strut tower nuts and torque them to the specified values.
  • Reinstall the wheel and torque the lug nuts in a star pattern.
  • Lower the vehicle back to the ground.
