Solution
1. Preparation
  • Tools Required: Socket set, torque wrench, spark plug socket, extension bar, ratchet, dielectric grease, cleaning brush, vacuum.
  • Disconnect the negative battery terminal to prevent electrical shorts.
  • Gather new spark plugs suitable for the vehicle's specifications.
2. Remove Engine Covers
  • Use a socket set to remove any engine covers obstructing access to the spark plugs.
  • Keep track of the screws and clips for reassembly.
3. Remove Old Spark Plugs
  • Locate the ignition coil packs on top of the spark plugs.
  • Carefully detach the electrical connector from each ignition coil.
  • Use the socket and ratchet to remove the bolts securing the ignition coils, and gently pull the coils out.
  • Use the spark plug socket and ratchet to unscrew and remove the old spark plugs from the cylinder head.
4. Inspect and Prepare New Spark Plugs
  • Check the gap on the new spark plugs with a gap tool; adjust to manufacturer specifications if necessary.
  • Apply a small amount of dielectric grease on the threads of the new spark plugs to ensure proper installation.
5. Install New Spark Plugs
  • Carefully thread the new spark plugs into the cylinder head by hand to avoid cross-threading.
  • Tighten each spark plug to the manufacturer’s specified torque (usually around 22 ft-lbs for many models, but verify with the specific service manual).
  • Reinstall the ignition coils and secure them with the bolts removed earlier.
  • Reconnect the electrical connectors to the ignition coils.
6. Reassemble Engine Covers
  • Replace any engine covers removed during the process and secure them with the appropriate screws and clips.
7. Reconnect Battery
  • Reconnect the negative battery terminal and ensure it is tight.
