Solution
1. Preparation
  • Tools Required: Wrench set, power steering fluid, funnel, rags, jack and jack stands.
  • Ensure the vehicle is parked on a level surface. Disconnect the battery to prevent electrical issues.
2. Check and Refill Power Steering Fluid
  • Locate the power steering fluid reservoir.
  • Remove the cap and check the fluid level. Add the appropriate power steering fluid if low.
  • Replace the cap securely.
3. Inspect and Replace Power Steering Pump (if needed)
  • Tools Required: Socket set, torque wrench.
  • Remove the serpentine belt by loosening the tensioner pulley.
  • Disconnect the power steering pump from the mounting bracket and remove any fluid lines connected to it.
  • Install the new power steering pump by reversing the removal steps. Ensure all connections are tight and secure.
  • Torque the mounting bolts to the manufacturer's specifications.
4. Inspect and Replace Serpentine Belt (if worn)
  • Check the serpentine belt for cracks, fraying, or signs of wear.
  • Remove the old belt by releasing the tension on the tensioner pulley.
  • Install a new serpentine belt, following the routing diagram usually found on a sticker in the engine bay.
  • Recheck the tension to ensure proper fit.
5. Test the System
  • Reconnect the battery and start the vehicle.
  • Turn the steering wheel from side to side to bleed the power steering system and check for any remaining noise.
  • Monitor power steering fluid levels and top off if necessary.
