Solution
1. Preparation
  • Tools Required:
    • Socket set
    • Pliers
    • Fluid catch pan
    • Funnel
    • Clean rags
    • Safety goggles and gloves
  • Park the vehicle on a level surface and turn off the engine.
  • Allow the engine to cool if it has been running.
  • Wear safety goggles and gloves for protection.
2. Drain Old Power Steering Fluid
  • Locate the power steering fluid reservoir under the hood.
  • Carefully remove the cap from the reservoir.
  • Use a siphon pump or turkey baster to remove old fluid from the reservoir into the fluid catch pan.
  • Disconnect the return hose from the power steering pump using pliers, and direct it into the catch pan.
  • Start the engine briefly (a few seconds) to expel any remaining fluid from the system, then shut off the engine.
3. Flush the System (Optional)
  • If necessary, fill the reservoir with new power steering fluid and turn the steering wheel from lock to lock several times to circulate the fluid.
  • Drain the fluid again as described in the previous step.
  • Repeat this process until the fluid runs clear from the return line.
4. Refilling with New Power Steering Fluid
  • Reconnect the return hose to the power steering pump securely.
  • Using a funnel, add new power steering fluid to the reservoir until it reaches the full mark.
  • Replace the reservoir cap securely.
5. Bleed the Power Steering System
  • Start the engine and allow it to idle.
  • Turn the steering wheel from lock to lock several times to remove air from the system.
  • Check the fluid level in the reservoir and add more fluid if necessary.
