Solution
1. Preparation
  • Gather all tools and parts needed for the oil change.
  • Tools Required:
    • Oil filter wrench
    • Socket set
    • Oil catch pan
    • Funnel
    • Torque wrench
  • Parts Required:
    • Engine oil (0W-20 or as specified in the manual)
    • New oil filter
  • Safety Warnings:
    • Ensure the engine is cool before beginning work.
    • Use gloves to protect hands from oil.
2. Drain Old Oil
  • Place the oil catch pan under the oil pan.
  • Remove the drain plug using the socket set. Allow the oil to fully drain into the catch pan (approximately 10-15 minutes).
  • Once drained, replace the drain plug and tighten it to the specified torque (typically 30 ft-lbs).
3. Replace Oil Filter
  • Use the oil filter wrench to remove the old oil filter. Be cautious of residual oil spilling.
  • Prepare the new oil filter by applying a small amount of new oil to the rubber O-ring.
  • Install the new oil filter by hand, tightening it until snug (do not over-tighten).
4. Add New Oil
  • Remove the oil filler cap on top of the engine.
  • Using the funnel, pour in the new engine oil according to the recommended capacity (usually around 6 quarts for Tacoma).
  • Replace the oil filler cap securely.
5. Check Oil Level
  • Start the engine and let it run for a few minutes to circulate the new oil.
  • Turn off the engine and wait a minute, then check the oil level using the dipstick. Add oil if necessary to reach the correct level.
