Solution
1. Preparation
  • Tools Required: OBD-II scanner, fuel pressure gauge, socket set, throttle body cleaner, vacuum gauge.
  • Ensure the vehicle is parked on a level surface and the engine is cool. Disconnect the battery to avoid electrical shorts.
2. Clean the Throttle Body
  1. Remove the air intake duct connected to the throttle body using the socket set.
  2. Spray throttle body cleaner into the throttle body while opening the throttle plate manually. Wipe away carbon buildup with a clean cloth.
  3. Reattach the air intake duct securely.
3. Replace Spark Plugs
  1. Remove the ignition coil covers as necessary to access the spark plugs.
  2. Disconnect the ignition coils and remove them using the socket set.
  3. Extract the old spark plugs using a spark plug socket and replace them with new, manufacturer-recommended plugs.
  4. Reinstall the ignition coils and ensure they are seated properly.
4. Inspect and Replace the Air Filter
  1. Open the air filter housing by releasing any clips or screws.
  2. Remove the old air filter and inspect for dirt or damage. Replace with a new filter if necessary.
  3. Reassemble the air filter housing securely.
5. Check Fuel System
  1. Connect the fuel pressure gauge to the fuel rail using the appropriate fittings.
  2. Turn the ignition to the ON position without starting the engine to check pressure readings. Ensure they meet manufacturer specifications (usually between 30-50 psi for RAV4).
  3. If pressure is low, inspect the fuel pump and fuel filter for issues, replacing as necessary.
