Solution
1. Preparation
  • Tools Required: Socket set, torque wrench, fluid catch pan, funnel
  • Park the vehicle on a level surface and turn off the engine.
  • Disconnect the negative battery terminal to ensure safety.
2. Inspect and Replace Power Steering Fluid
  • Locate the power steering reservoir.
  • Remove the cap and check fluid level.
  • If the fluid is low, top it off with the manufacturer-recommended power steering fluid.
  • If the fluid is dirty or contaminated, drain the fluid using a fluid catch pan.
  • Refill the reservoir with new fluid after draining.
3. Examine and Replace Power Steering Pump (if necessary)
  • Tools Required: Wrench set, new power steering pump, O-rings
  • Remove any components obstructing access to the power steering pump.
  • Disconnect the hoses from the pump and cap the openings to prevent fluid loss.
  • Unbolt the pump from its mounting bracket and remove it.
  • Install the new power steering pump, ensuring all O-rings are replaced.
  • Reattach hoses and secure them tightly.
4. Inspect and Replace Steering Rack (if necessary)
  • Tools Required: Wrench set, new steering rack, alignment tools
  • Lift the vehicle and secure it on jack stands to access the steering rack.
  • Disconnect the tie rods from the steering rack.
  • Remove the bolts securing the steering rack to the subframe.
  • Carefully slide the steering rack out and replace it with a new one.
  • Reattach the tie rods and secure the steering rack in place.
5. Reassemble and Test
  • Reconnect any components removed during the process.
  • Reattach the negative battery terminal.
  • Start the engine and turn the steering wheel from lock to lock to bleed the power steering system.
  • Check for leaks and ensure proper fluid level.
