Solution
1. Preparation
  • Gather tools and materials before starting.
  • Tools required: Transmission fluid dipstick (if applicable), clean cloth, funnel, drain pan, jack and jack stands, gloves.
  • Safety warning: Ensure the vehicle is on a flat surface and the engine is cool before checking fluid levels.
2. Inspect Fluid Condition
  • Remove the transmission fluid dipstick (if available) from the transmission.
  • Wipe the dipstick with a clean cloth and reinsert it fully.
  • Remove the dipstick again and inspect the fluid:
    • Color: Fresh fluid should be bright red. Dark or brown fluid indicates degradation.
    • Odor: If the fluid smells burnt, it needs to be replaced.
3. Check Fluid Level
  • With the engine running and the transmission in park (or neutral), pull out the dipstick and wipe it clean.
  • Reinsert the dipstick and remove it again to check the fluid level.
  • The level should be within the marked range; if low, add the appropriate transmission fluid (consult the owner’s manual for specifications).
4. Change Transmission Fluid (if necessary)
  • If fluid is discolored, burnt, or the level is low, proceed with a fluid change:
    1. Drain Old Fluid:
      • Position a drain pan under the transmission fluid pan.
      • Remove the drain plug or pan bolts and allow the old fluid to completely drain.
    2. Replace Filter (if applicable):
      • Remove the transmission pan (if necessary).
      • Replace the transmission filter with a new one.
    3. Install Pan and New Fluid:
      • Reinstall the transmission pan (or drain plug) with new gaskets if necessary, torqueing to manufacturer specifications.
      • Using a funnel, pour the new transmission fluid into the dipstick tube until it reaches the full mark.
