Solution
1. Preparation
  • Gather tools: socket set, oil filter wrench, oil catch pan, funnel, and a torque wrench.
  • Purchase required materials: engine oil (5W-20 or as specified in the manual) and a new oil filter.
  • Ensure the vehicle is on a flat surface and secure it with wheel chocks.
2. Drain Old Oil
  • Step 1: Start the engine for a few minutes, then turn it off. This will warm the oil.
  • Step 2: Place the oil catch pan under the oil drain plug located at the bottom of the oil pan.
  • Step 3: Using a socket wrench, carefully remove the drain plug and allow the old oil to completely drain into the pan.
3. Replace Oil Filter
  • Step 1: Locate the oil filter, which is on the side of the engine block.
  • Step 2: Use the oil filter wrench to unscrew the old oil filter.
  • Step 3: Before installing the new filter, apply a small amount of new oil to the rubber gasket of the new filter.
  • Step 4: Screw the new filter into place by hand until snug, then tighten slightly more with the wrench.
4. Add New Oil
  • Step 1: Replace the drain plug and tighten it to the manufacturer's specifications (typically 30 ft-lbs).
  • Step 2: Using a funnel, pour the new engine oil into the oil filler cap located on top of the engine.
  • Step 3: Refer to the owner's manual to add the correct amount of oil (usually around 5.5 quarts with a filter change).
  • Step 4: Start the engine and let it run for a minute, then check the oil level using the dipstick and add more oil if necessary.
5. Cleanup
  • Step 1: Dispose of the old oil and oil filter according to local regulations.
  • Step 2: Check for leaks around the oil filter and drain plug after the engine has run.
