Solution
1. Preparation
  • Gather tools and parts.
  • Ensure the engine is cool and vehicle is parked on a level surface.
  • Disconnect the battery for safety.
2. Identify and Fix the Leak

a. Coolant Reservoir

  • Tools Required: Socket set
  • Inspect the reservoir for cracks.
  • If damaged, remove the old reservoir by unscrewing the mounting bolts and disconnecting the hoses.
  • Replace with a new reservoir and retighten bolts to manufacturer’s specifications.

b. Radiator and Hoses

  • Tools Required: Hose clamp pliers
  • Check the radiator for leaks or corrosion.
  • Inspect hoses for cracks or soft spots.
  • If leaks are found, replace the affected hose or radiator. Use new hose clamps to secure connections.

c. Water Pump

  • Tools Required: Socket set, torque wrench
  • If the water pump is leaking, drain coolant, remove the water pump by unscrewing the mounting bolts.
  • Replace with a new water pump and torque the bolts to manufacturer's specifications.

d. Head Gasket

  • Tools Required: Torque wrench, gasket scraper
  • If a head gasket leak is suspected, perform a compression test.
  • If failed, remove the cylinder head and replace the gasket. Clean surfaces before installation and torque bolts to specification.
3. Refill Coolant
  • Tools Required: Funnel
  • Refill the cooling system with the appropriate type of coolant (Toyota Genuine Super Long Life Coolant).
  • Bleed the system of air by running the engine with the radiator cap off until the thermostat opens.
