Solution
1. Preparation
  • Gather tools: OBD-II scanner, multimeter, socket set, screwdriver, and safety glasses.
  • Disconnect the negative battery terminal to prevent any electrical shorts.
  • Allow the fuel system to depressurize by removing the fuel pump relay or fuse and starting the engine until it stalls.
2. Inspect and Replace the Fuel Sending Unit
  • Remove the Fuel Tank:

    1. Safely lift the rear of the vehicle using jack stands.
    2. Drain fuel from the tank (if necessary) and disconnect the fuel lines and electrical connectors.
    3. Unbolt the fuel tank straps and lower the tank to the ground.
  • Remove the Fuel Sending Unit:

    1. Access the fuel sending unit by removing the access cover (if applicable) or further disassembling the tank.
    2. Disconnect the electrical connector and unscrew the sending unit from the tank.
  • Install the New Sending Unit:

    1. Position the new sending unit and secure it in place.
    2. Reconnect the electrical connector and any fuel lines.
  • Reinstall the Fuel Tank:

    1. Raise the fuel tank and secure it with the straps.
    2. Reconnect the fuel lines and any electrical connectors.
    3. Refill the tank with fuel.
3. Reconnect Battery and Test
  • Reconnect the negative battery terminal.
  • Start the vehicle and observe the fuel gauge for proper operation.
  • Test drive to ensure the gauge responds correctly during various fuel levels.
