Solution
1. Preparation
  • Gather tools and materials needed for the repair.
  • Ensure the vehicle is parked on a level surface and turn off the ignition.
  • Safety warning: Always wear safety glasses and gloves when working on vehicles.
2. Remove Tire (if necessary)
  • Loosen lug nuts slightly while the tire is still on the ground.
  • Raise the vehicle using a jack and secure it with jack stands.
  • Remove the lug nuts completely and take off the tire.
3. Inspect and Replace Tire Pressure Sensor
  • Sensor Removal:

    • Locate the tire pressure sensor inside the tire.
    • Carefully deflate the tire and remove it from the rim using a tire mounting machine if available.
    • Detach the sensor from the valve stem by removing the retaining nut.
  • Sensor Replacement:

    • Replace the old sensor with a new one, ensuring it is compatible with the RAV4's TPMS.
    • Reattach the retaining nut and confirm it is securely fastened.
4. Reinstall Tire
  • Reattach the tire to the rim and inflate it to the recommended pressure.
  • Reinstall the tire onto the vehicle and hand-tighten the lug nuts.
  • Lower the vehicle and torque the lug nuts to the manufacturer’s specifications (typically around 76 ft-lbs for RAV4).
5. Reset TPMS
  • Turn the ignition key to the "On" position without starting the engine.
  • Press and hold the TPMS reset button (usually located below the steering wheel) until the TPMS light blinks three times.
  • Start the vehicle and check if the TPMS light turns off after driving for a short distance.
