Solution
1. Preparation
  • Gather necessary tools and parts.
  • Ensure the vehicle is parked on a level surface and the parking brake is engaged.
  • Wear safety gloves and glasses for protection.
2. Raise the Vehicle
  • Use a jack to lift the front or rear of the vehicle depending on which brakes need inspection.
  • Secure the vehicle with jack stands to ensure stability.
3. Remove the Wheel
  • Using a lug wrench, loosen and remove the lug nuts from the wheel.
  • Carefully take off the wheel to expose the brake components.
4. Inspect Brake Pads
  • Visually examine the brake pads for wear; replace if they are less than 1/4 inch thick.
  • Check for any uneven wear patterns or damage on the pads.
5. Replace Brake Pads (if necessary)
  • Remove the caliper bolts using a socket set.
  • Slide the caliper off the rotor, being cautious not to damage the brake line.
  • Remove the old brake pads from the caliper bracket.
  • Install new brake pads into the bracket, ensuring they are properly seated.
  • Compress the caliper piston using a caliper tool to accommodate the new pads.
  • Reattach the caliper over the new pads and tighten bolts to manufacturer’s torque specifications (usually 20-30 ft-lbs, check service manual).
6. Reattach Wheel
  • Place the wheel back onto the hub and hand-tighten the lug nuts.
  • Lower the vehicle from the jack stands and then tighten the lug nuts to the specified torque (typically 75-85 ft-lbs).
