1. Preparation

2. Locate the Oxygen Sensor
  • Identify the location of the faulty oxygen sensor (upstream or downstream) based on the diagnostic results.
  • For the 2019-present RAV4, the upstream sensor is typically located on the exhaust manifold, while the downstream sensor is located after the catalytic converter.
3. Remove the Faulty Oxygen Sensor
  • Use an oxygen sensor socket to carefully unscrew the faulty sensor from its mounting position.
  • Disconnect the electrical connector by pressing the release tab and pulling it apart. Ensure not to damage the connector or wires.
4. Install the New Oxygen Sensor
