Solution
1. Preparation
  • Gather necessary tools and parts.
  • Ensure the vehicle is parked on a flat surface and the parking brake is engaged.
  • Wear safety goggles and gloves.
2. Gather Tools and Parts
  • Tools Required:
    • Jack and jack stands
    • Lug wrench
    • Brake cleaner
    • Torque wrench
    • Caliper tool (if needed for piston retraction)
    • Socket set
  • Parts Required:
    • New brake pads
    • Brake grease (anti-squeal lubricant)
3. Remove Wheel
  • Loosen the lug nuts slightly while the vehicle is on the ground.
  • Raise the vehicle using the jack and secure it with jack stands.
  • Remove the lug nuts completely and take off the wheel.
4. Remove Old Brake Pads
  • Locate the brake caliper and remove the caliper mounting bolts with the socket set.
  • Carefully slide the caliper off the rotor and support it using a bungee cord or similar tool (do not let it dangle on the brake line).
  • Remove the old brake pads from the caliper bracket.
5. Inspect and Prepare Components
  • Inspect the rotor for any signs of wear or damage; consider resurfacing or replacing if necessary.
  • Clean the caliper bracket and surrounding areas with brake cleaner.
  • Apply brake grease to the backing of the new brake pads and any sliding surfaces on the caliper.
6. Install New Brake Pads
  • Place the new brake pads into the caliper bracket.
  • Reposition the caliper over the new brake pads and rotor.
  • Reinstall and tighten the caliper mounting bolts to the manufacturer's specified torque setting.
7. Reassemble Wheel
  • Put the wheel back on the hub.
  • Hand-tighten the lug nuts before lowering the vehicle.
  • Lower the vehicle and then torque the lug nuts to the manufacturer's specifications.
