Solution
1. Preparation
  • Gather all necessary tools and parts.
  • Ensure the vehicle is parked on a flat surface and the engine is off.
  • Wear safety glasses and gloves for protection.
2. Check and Refill Brake Fluid
  • Tools Required: Brake fluid, clean rag.
  • If the brake fluid level is low, clean the area around the master cylinder cap before removing it to prevent contamination.
  • Add the appropriate type of brake fluid (DOT 3 or DOT 4 as specified in the owner’s manual) to the required level.
  • Replace the master cylinder cap securely.
3. Inspect and Replace Brake Components
  • Tools Required: Socket set, torque wrench, brake cleaner, new brake pads or rotors if necessary.
  • Remove the wheel and inspect the brake caliper, pads, and rotor for wear.
  • If pads are worn down or the rotor is damaged, replace them as follows:
    • Remove the caliper bolts and slide the caliper off the rotor.
    • Remove the old brake pads.
    • Install new brake pads and ensure they are properly seated.
    • Reinstall the caliper and torque bolts to the manufacturer’s specifications.
    • Replace rotor if needed by removing the caliper bracket and rotor retaining screws.
4. Bleed the Brake System
  • Tools Required: Brake bleeder kit, clean brake fluid.
  • Start with the wheel farthest from the master cylinder (usually the rear passenger side).
  • Attach the bleeder kit to the brake caliper bleeder valve.
  • Open the valve and have an assistant press the brake pedal several times, keeping the pedal pressed.
  • Close the valve before the assistant releases the pedal to prevent air from entering the system.
  • Repeat for all wheels in the correct order (rear passenger, rear driver, front passenger, front driver).
  • Check fluid levels and top off as necessary.
