Solution
1. Preparation
  • Gather necessary tools and parts.
  • Park the vehicle on a level surface and engage the parking brake.
  • Disconnect the battery if working on electronic suspension systems.
2. Raise the Vehicle
  • Use a jack to lift the vehicle and secure it with jack stands.
  • Remove the wheels for easier access to the suspension components.
3. Inspect and Replace Shocks/Struts
  • Inspect: Check each shock absorber or strut for leaks and performance.
  • Remove:
    1. Unbolt the top mount of the strut/shock using a socket wrench.
    2. Unbolt the bottom mount from the control arm or axle.
    3. Carefully remove the shock/strut assembly.
  • Replace:
    1. Install the new shock/strut in reverse order of removal.
    2. Ensure all bolts are torqued to the manufacturer’s specifications (check service manual for specific torque values).
4. Check and Replace Springs (if necessary)
  • If the springs are sagging or damaged, they should be replaced as well.
  • Remove Springs:
    1. Use a spring compressor to safely compress the spring.
    2. Remove the top and bottom mounts of the spring.
    3. Replace with new springs and reassemble in reverse order.
5. Reassemble and Lower Vehicle
  • Reinstall the wheels and lower the vehicle back to the ground.
  • Reconnect the battery if it was disconnected.
