Solution
1. Preparation
  • Gather tools: Socket set, fluid catch pan, power steering fluid, torque wrench, and hose clamps.
  • Park the vehicle on a flat surface and ensure the engine is off and cool.
  • Disconnect the battery to prevent electrical issues.
2. Check and Replenish Power Steering Fluid
  • Remove the power steering fluid reservoir cap.
  • If the fluid is low, add the recommended type of power steering fluid until it reaches the proper level.
  • Inspect the reservoir for cracks or damage.
3. Replace Power Steering Pump (if faulty)
  • 3.1. Remove the Serpentine Belt
    • Loosen the tensioner pulley using a socket wrench and remove the belt from the power steering pump.
  • 3.2. Detach Power Steering Pump
    • Remove the bolts securing the power steering pump using a socket set.
    • Disconnect the power steering hoses from the pump, using a fluid catch pan to collect any leaking fluid.
  • 3.3. Install New Power Steering Pump
    • Position the new power steering pump and secure it with the bolts, tightening to manufacturer specifications.
    • Reconnect the power steering hoses, ensuring they are secure and leak-free.
4. Reinstall Serpentine Belt
  • Route the serpentine belt back onto the pulleys according to the belt routing diagram.
  • Use the tensioner to apply tension and ensure the belt is snug.
5. Refill Power Steering Fluid and Test
  • Fill the power steering reservoir with fresh fluid.
  • Start the engine and turn the steering wheel from lock to lock to bleed air from the system.
  • Check for leaks and ensure the whining noise has been eliminated.
