Solution
1. Preparation
  • Gather necessary tools and parts.
  • Ensure the vehicle is parked on a flat surface and the engine is cool.
  • Disconnect the negative terminal of the battery to prevent electrical shorts.
2. Locate the Oxygen Sensor
  • Identify the location of the oxygen sensor. The 2013-2018 RAV4 typically has two sensors: one upstream (pre-catalytic converter) and one downstream (post-catalytic converter).
  • Access the sensor by raising the vehicle safely using jack stands if needed.
3. Remove the Old Oxygen Sensor
  • Disconnect the electrical connector from the oxygen sensor by pressing the tab and pulling it apart.
  • Use an oxygen sensor socket (22mm) or a wrench to unscrew the sensor from the exhaust pipe.
  • If the sensor is stuck, apply penetrating oil and let it sit for a few minutes before attempting to remove it again.
