Solution
1. Preparation
  • Tools Required:
    • Socket set
    • Screwdriver set
    • Fuel pressure gauge
    • Pliers
    • Safety goggles
    • Rags or absorbent cloths
  • Ensure the vehicle is parked on a level surface with the ignition off and the keys removed.
2. Relieve Fuel Pressure
  • Locate the fuel pump fuse or relay in the fuse box and remove it.
  • Start the engine and let it run until it stalls, indicating the fuel pressure is relieved.
  • Turn the ignition off and disconnect the negative battery cable.
3. Remove the Fuel Filter
  • Locate the fuel filter; on the RAV4, it is typically found along the fuel line underneath the vehicle.
  • Using pliers, carefully disconnect the fuel line from the inlet side of the filter. Use rags to catch any spilled fuel.
  • Repeat the process for the outlet side of the filter.
  • Unbolt the fuel filter from its mounting bracket using the socket set.
4. Install New Fuel Filter
  • Position the new fuel filter in place. Ensure the flow direction (indicated by arrows on the filter) matches the old one.
  • Bolt the new filter to the mounting bracket securely to the manufacturer's torque specifications.
  • Reconnect the fuel lines to the new filter, ensuring a snug fit.
5. Reconnect Battery and Test
  • Reconnect the negative battery cable.
  • Replace the fuel pump fuse or relay.
  • Turn the ignition to the "ON" position without starting the engine, allowing the fuel pump to pressurize the system. Check for leaks around the fuel filter connections.
  • Start the engine and monitor for smooth operation and absence of leaks.
