Solution
1. Preparation
  • Gather tools and park the vehicle on a flat surface.
  • Ensure the engine is off and the vehicle is in gear or park mode.
  • Use wheel chocks to prevent vehicle movement.
2. Raise the Vehicle
  • Use a jack to lift the vehicle and secure it with jack stands.
  • Remove the wheel to access the struts or shocks.
3. Remove Old Struts or Shocks
  • For Struts:

    1. Disconnect the sway bar link, if equipped.
    2. Remove the bolts securing the strut to the steering knuckle.
    3. Remove the top mounting bolts of the strut under the hood.
    4. Carefully extract the strut assembly from the vehicle.
  • For Shocks:

    1. Remove the bolts securing the shock to its mounting points (top and bottom).
    2. Carefully pull the shock out of its mount.
4. Install New Struts or Shocks
  • For Struts:

    1. Position the new strut assembly into place.
    2. Secure the top mounting bolts under the hood and tighten to manufacturer specifications (typically around 15-25 ft-lbs).
    3. Reattach the strut to the steering knuckle and tighten bolts to manufacturer specifications (typically around 50-70 ft-lbs).
    4. Reconnect the sway bar link.
  • For Shocks:

    1. Insert the new shock into its mount.
    2. Secure with bolts and tighten to manufacturer specifications (typically around 30-40 ft-lbs).
5. Reassemble and Lower the Vehicle
  • Reinstall the wheel and lug nuts, tightening them in a star pattern to ensure even pressure.
  • Lower the vehicle from the jack stands.
6. Final Check
  • Inspect all connections and ensure everything is secured properly.
  • Perform a test drive to confirm improved handling and comfort.
