Solution
1. Preparation
  • Tools Required: Socket set, oil filter wrench, funnel, drain pan, rags, jack and jack stands or ramps.
  • Locate the necessary supplies: new engine oil (5W-20 or 0W-20), new oil filter, and an oil filter gasket.
  • Ensure the vehicle is parked on a level surface with the engine off and cool.
2. Raise the Vehicle
  • Use the jack to lift the front of the vehicle.
  • Secure the vehicle with jack stands or ramps for safety.
  • Safety Warning: Ensure the vehicle is stable before proceeding underneath.
3. Drain Old Oil
  • Place the drain pan under the oil pan.
  • Remove the oil drain plug using a socket wrench (tighten to 30 ft-lbs upon reinstallation).
  • Allow the old oil to completely drain into the pan.
4. Replace Oil Filter
  • Use the oil filter wrench to remove the old oil filter.
  • Apply a small amount of new oil to the rubber O-ring of the new filter.
  • Install the new oil filter by hand; tighten it to about 3/4 of a turn after the rubber O-ring contacts the engine.
5. Add New Oil
  • Replace the oil drain plug and tighten it securely.
  • Remove the oil filler cap on top of the engine.
  • Using a funnel, pour in the new engine oil (approximately 5 quarts).
  • Replace the oil filler cap.
6. Check Oil Level
  • Start the engine and let it run for a few minutes to circulate the new oil.
  • Turn off the engine and wait a couple of minutes.
  • Check the oil level using the dipstick; add more oil if necessary to reach the full mark.
