Solution
1. Preparation
  • Tools Required: Socket set, torque wrench, power steering fluid, OBD-II scanner.
  • Ensure the vehicle is parked on a flat surface, and the ignition is off. Disconnect the negative battery terminal for safety.
  • Raise the front of the vehicle using jack stands and remove the front wheels for better access to the steering components.
2. Remove the Old Steering Rack
  • Step 1: Disconnect the Power Steering Lines

    • Use a wrench to loosen and remove the high-pressure and low-pressure power steering lines from the steering rack.
    • Catch any fluid in a drain pan to avoid spills.
  • Step 2: Remove the Steering Column Coupler

    • Locate the universal joint at the base of the steering column. Remove the bolt securing the coupler to the steering rack using a socket.
    • Carefully slide the coupler off the input shaft of the steering rack.
  • Step 3: Unbolt the Steering Rack

    • Locate the mounting bolts securing the steering rack to the subframe. Use a socket to remove these bolts.
    • Support the steering rack and carefully slide it out from its mounting position.
3. Install the New Steering Rack
  • Step 1: Position the New Steering Rack

    • Align the new steering rack in the mounting position and slide it into place.
    • Hand-tighten the mounting bolts to hold the rack temporarily.
  • Step 2: Attach the Steering Column Coupler

    • Slide the steering column coupler onto the input shaft of the new steering rack.
    • Secure it with the bolt and torque to manufacturer specifications.
  • Step 3: Reconnect Power Steering Lines

    • Reattach the high-pressure and low-pressure power steering lines to the new steering rack.
    • Ensure all connections are tight to prevent leaks.
  • Step 4: Secure the Steering Rack

    • Torque the mounting bolts to the specified torque value according to the manufacturer’s specifications.
4. Reattach Components
  • Reinstall the front wheels and lower the vehicle back to the ground.
  • Reconnect the negative battery terminal.
5. Refill and Bleed the Power Steering System
  • Step 1: Fill the Power Steering Reservoir

    • Add the appropriate type and amount of power steering fluid to the reservoir.
  • Step 2: Bleed the System

    • Start the engine and turn the steering wheel from lock to lock several times to remove air from the system. Check the fluid level and add more as needed.
