Solution
1. Preparation
  • Tools Required: Socket set, torque wrench, jack and jack stands, brake cleaner, bungee cord or rope, C-clamp or brake caliper tool, gloves, safety goggles.
  • Instructions:
    1. Park the vehicle on a level surface and engage the parking brake.
    2. Loosen the wheel lug nuts slightly (do not remove them).
    3. Safely lift the vehicle using a jack and secure it with jack stands.
    4. Remove the wheel to access the brake assembly.
2. Remove Brake Caliper
  1. Locate the caliper mounting bolts and remove them using the socket set.
  2. Carefully slide the caliper off the rotor. Use a bungee cord to hang the caliper from the suspension (do not let it dangle by the brake line).
  3. Remove the old brake pads from the caliper bracket.
3. Inspect and Clean
  1. Inspect the brake rotor for wear; replace if necessary.
  2. Clean the brake caliper and bracket with brake cleaner to remove dust and debris.
  3. Check the caliper slides for movement; lubricate if necessary.
4. Install New Brake Pads
  1. Apply a thin layer of brake grease to the back of the new brake pads to prevent noise.
  2. Insert the new brake pads into the caliper bracket, ensuring they are seated properly.
5. Reinstall Brake Caliper
  1. Use the C-clamp or brake caliper tool to compress the caliper piston back into the caliper housing.
  2. Position the caliper over the new brake pads and align it with the mounting holes.
  3. Reinstall the caliper mounting bolts and torque them to the manufacturer’s specifications (typically between 25-35 ft-lbs).
6. Reassemble and Test
  1. Reinstall the wheel and hand-tighten the lug nuts.
  2. Lower the vehicle and remove the jack stands.
  3. Torque the lug nuts to the manufacturer’s specifications (typically 76-80 ft-lbs).
  4. Press the brake pedal a few times to seat the pads against the rotors.
