Solution
1. Preparation
  • Tools Required: Socket set, torque wrench, spark plug socket, extension bar, dielectric grease, shop towels.
  • Safety Warnings: Disconnect the negative terminal of the battery to prevent electrical shocks.
2. Access the Spark Plugs
  1. Open the hood and secure it.
  2. Remove any engine covers if applicable (using the appropriate socket).
  3. Locate the ignition coils on top of the spark plugs.
3. Remove Ignition Coils
  1. Disconnect the electrical connectors from each ignition coil by pressing on the tab and pulling it off.
  2. Remove the bolts securing the ignition coils using a socket.
  3. Carefully pull the ignition coils straight out from the spark plug wells.
4. Remove Old Spark Plugs
  1. Use a spark plug socket and ratchet to loosen and remove the old spark plugs by turning them counterclockwise.
  2. Inspect the removed spark plugs for wear or deposits.
5. Install New Spark Plugs
  1. Check the gap on the new spark plugs using a feeler gauge and adjust if necessary to the manufacturer’s specifications (typically around 0.044 inches for many models).
  2. Apply a small amount of anti-seize lubricant to the threads of each spark plug.
  3. Carefully screw in the new spark plugs by hand to avoid cross-threading, then tighten them with a torque wrench to the manufacturer's specified torque (usually around 13 lb-ft).
6. Reinstall Ignition Coils
  1. Apply a small amount of dielectric grease to the inside of each ignition coil boot.
  2. Insert the ignition coils back into their respective positions and secure them with bolts.
  3. Reconnect the electrical connectors to each ignition coil until you hear a click.
7. Reassemble and Test
  1. Replace any engine covers that were removed.
  2. Reconnect the negative battery terminal.
  3. Start the engine and check for proper operation, ensuring no warning lights are illuminated.
