Solution
1. Preparation
  • Gather necessary tools and parts.
  • Ensure the vehicle is parked on a level surface and is in gear or has the parking brake engaged.
  • Disconnect the battery to prevent any electrical issues during repair.
2. Lift the Vehicle
  • Use a jack to lift the rear of the vehicle and secure it with jack stands.
  • Ensure the vehicle is stable before proceeding.
3. Remove the Driveshaft
  • Tools Required: Socket set, torque wrench.
  • Loosen and remove the bolts securing the driveshaft to the rear differential.
  • Remove the bolts at the transmission end of the driveshaft.
  • Carefully slide the driveshaft out from the U-joint.
4. Replace the U-Joint
  • Tools Required: U-joint removal tool or press, grease.
  • Using the U-joint removal tool, press out the old U-joint from the driveshaft.
  • Clean the U-joint yokes on the driveshaft to remove old grease and debris.
  • Apply grease to the new U-joint and press it into place using the tool.
  • Ensure the U-joint is correctly seated and aligned.
5. Reinstall the Driveshaft
  • Slide the driveshaft back into position.
  • Reinstall and torque the bolts to the manufacturer’s specifications (typically around 30-50 lb-ft depending on specifications).
  • Reconnect the battery.
6. Lower the Vehicle
  • Remove the jack stands and lower the vehicle back to the ground.
