Solution
1. Preparation
  • Gather all necessary tools and parts.
  • Ensure the vehicle is parked on a level surface with the parking brake engaged.
  • Disconnect the battery to prevent electrical issues while working.
2. Differential Fluid Change
  • Tools Required: Socket set, fluid pump, catch pan, torque wrench.
  • Remove the differential cover bolts using the socket set.
  • Carefully remove the differential cover and allow old fluid to drain into the catch pan.
  • Inspect the inside of the differential for wear or metal shavings.
  • Clean the differential cover and mating surfaces thoroughly.
  • Replace with manufacturer-recommended differential fluid, using the fluid pump to refill.
  • Reattach the differential cover and torque bolts to the manufacturer’s specifications (usually around 30 lb-ft).
3. Inspect and Replace Bearings
  • Tools Required: Bearing puller, torque wrench, socket set.
  • Remove the differential housing from the vehicle by unbolting it from the frame and axle.
  • Use a bearing puller to remove old bearings from the differential.
  • Inspect and replace any worn bearings with OEM parts.
  • Reassemble the differential housing and reinstall it in the vehicle.
