Solution
1. Preparation
  • Gather tools and materials: socket set, torque wrench, jack and jack stands, lubricant, and replacement parts if needed.
  • Park the vehicle on a level surface and set the parking brake.
2. Raise the Vehicle
  • Use a jack to lift the front or rear of the vehicle depending on where the noise originates.
  • Secure the vehicle with jack stands to ensure safety while working underneath.
3. Inspect and Replace Components

A. Shock Absorbers/Struts

  • Remove the wheel to access the suspension.
  • Unbolt the top and bottom mounts of the shock absorber or strut.
  • Replace with a new shock absorber or strut if damaged. Torque to manufacturer specifications.

B. Sway Bar Links and Bushings

  • Locate the sway bar links and inspect for damage.
  • Unbolt the links and replace them if worn. Ensure bushings are also replaced if cracked or dry-rotted.

C. Control Arm Bushings

  • Check the control arm bushings for play.
  • If worn, unbolt the control arm and replace the bushings. Reassemble and torque to specifications.
4. Reassemble and Lower Vehicle
  • Reattach the wheel and tighten lug nuts to the specified torque.
  • Lower the vehicle back to the ground and remove jack stands.
