Solution
1. Preparation
  • Gather tools and parts needed for the job.
  • Ensure the vehicle is parked on a level surface and secure it with wheel chocks.
  • Raise the front of the vehicle using a jack and secure it with jack stands.
2. Remove the Wheel
  • Tools Required: Socket set, lug wrench
  • Loosen the lug nuts on the front wheel (do not completely remove yet).
  • Remove the wheel and set it aside.
3. Disconnect the Tie Rod End
  • Tools Required: Tie rod end puller or hammer, wrench/socket
  • Remove the cotter pin from the tie rod end nut using pliers.
  • Using the appropriate wrench or socket, loosen and remove the tie rod end nut.
  • Use a tie rod end puller or a hammer to separate the tie rod end from the steering knuckle.
4. Remove the Old Tie Rod
  • Tools Required: Wrench/socket
  • Locate the adjusting sleeve where the tie rod connects to the inner tie rod.
  • Use a wrench to loosen the lock nut on the adjusting sleeve.
  • Unscrew the old tie rod from the inner tie rod using a wrench.
5. Install the New Tie Rod
  • Tools Required: Wrench/socket
  • Screw the new tie rod onto the inner tie rod and tighten securely, ensuring the proper length is maintained for alignment.
  • Reattach the tie rod end to the steering knuckle and secure it with the nut. Install a new cotter pin.
6. Reassemble and Lower the Vehicle
  • Reinstall the wheel and hand-tighten the lug nuts.
  • Lower the vehicle and then torque the lug nuts to the manufacturer’s specifications (usually around 76-80 ft-lbs for most vehicles).
  • Remove the jack stands and lower the vehicle completely.
