Solution
1. Preparation
  • Tools Required: Jack and jack stands, lug wrench, ratchet and socket set, torque wrench, C-clamp or brake caliper tool, brake cleaner, gloves, and safety glasses.
  • Safety Warnings: Ensure the vehicle is on a level surface and securely supported by jack stands before working underneath.
2. Remove the Wheel
  1. Loosen the lug nuts using a lug wrench while the vehicle is on the ground.
  2. Lift the vehicle with a jack and secure it with jack stands.
  3. Remove the lug nuts and take off the front wheel.
3. Remove the Brake Caliper
  1. Locate the caliper mounting bolts on the back of the caliper.
  2. Using the ratchet and socket, remove the caliper mounting bolts.
  3. Carefully slide the caliper off the brake rotor. Suspend it using a bungee cord or rope to avoid straining the brake line.
4. Replace Brake Pads
  1. Remove the old brake pads from the caliper bracket.
  2. Use a C-clamp or brake caliper tool to compress the caliper piston back into the caliper housing.
  3. Install the new brake pads into the caliper bracket, ensuring the wear indicator (if present) is correctly positioned.
5. Reinstall Brake Caliper
  1. Carefully slide the caliper back over the new brake pads.
  2. Reinsert and torque the caliper mounting bolts to the manufacturer’s specifications (typically around 25-30 ft-lbs).
  3. Ensure the caliper moves freely and is not binding.
6. Reinstall the Wheel
  1. Place the wheel back onto the hub.
  2. Hand-tighten the lug nuts.
  3. Lower the vehicle off the jack stands and onto the ground.
  4. Torque the lug nuts to the manufacturer’s specifications (usually around 76-80 ft-lbs).
