Solution
1. Preparation
  • Tools Required: Socket set, torque wrench, spark plug socket, ratchet, extension, anti-seize compound, dielectric grease, compressed air (optional), safety goggles.
  • Disconnect the negative battery terminal to prevent any electrical shorts.
  • Gather the necessary replacement spark plugs, ensuring they match OEM specifications.
2. Remove Engine Cover (if applicable)
  • Sub-steps:
    1. Locate the engine cover, if present.
    2. Remove any fasteners (screws or clips) holding the cover in place using the appropriate socket or screwdriver.
    3. Carefully lift off the engine cover and set it aside.
3. Access Spark Plugs
  • Sub-steps:
    1. Identify the ignition coil connectors on top of each spark plug.
    2. Disconnect the electrical connectors from each ignition coil by pressing the tab and pulling them off.
    3. Remove the bolts securing the ignition coils using the appropriate socket.
    4. Gently pull out each ignition coil to access the spark plugs.
4. Remove Old Spark Plugs
  • Sub-steps:
    1. Use a spark plug socket attached to a ratchet and extension to carefully unscrew each spark plug.
    2. If the spark plug is stuck, apply penetrating oil and allow it to sit for a few minutes before attempting again.
    3. Once removed, inspect the old spark plugs for wear or damage.
5. Install New Spark Plugs
  • Sub-steps:
    1. Apply a small amount of anti-seize compound to the threads of the new spark plugs (if recommended).
    2. Carefully thread the new spark plugs into the cylinder head by hand to avoid cross-threading.
    3. Use a torque wrench to tighten the spark plugs to the manufacturer’s specified torque (typically around 13-15 lb-ft).
6. Reinstall Ignition Coils
  • Sub-steps:
    1. Apply a small amount of dielectric grease to the inside of the ignition coil boots.
    2. Reinsert the ignition coils over the new spark plugs and secure them with their bolts.
    3. Reconnect the electrical connectors to each ignition coil.
7. Reattach Engine Cover (if applicable)
  • Sub-steps:
    1. Position the engine cover back onto the engine.
    2. Secure with the fasteners removed earlier.
8. Reconnect Battery
  • Reconnect the negative battery terminal securely.
