Solution
1. Preparation
  • Tools Required: OBD-II scanner, socket set, multimeter, transmission fluid, funnel, cleaning rags.
  • Safety Warnings: Ensure the vehicle is on a flat surface and turn off the engine before beginning work.
2. Check and Replace Transmission Fluid
  1. Open the hood and locate the transmission dipstick.
  2. Remove the dipstick and wipe it clean with a rag.
  3. Reinsert the dipstick and remove it again to check the fluid level.
    • If low, add the recommended type of transmission fluid through the dipstick tube using a funnel.
  4. If the fluid appears dark or smells burnt, proceed to drain the fluid.
    • Place a drain pan under the transmission pan.
    • Remove the transmission pan bolts and carefully lower the pan.
    • Allow the fluid to drain completely.
  5. Replace the transmission filter if applicable.
    • Remove the old filter and install a new one, ensuring it is seated properly.
  6. Reinstall the transmission pan with a new gasket and torque the bolts to the manufacturer’s specifications.
3. Test Transmission Solenoids
  1. Disconnect the electrical connectors from the solenoids.
  2. Use a multimeter to test the resistance of each solenoid.
    • Compare readings with specifications from the service manual.
  3. If any solenoid is out of spec, replace it with a new one.
4. Recheck Transmission Fluid Level
  1. With the engine running, cycle through the gears (P, R, N, D) and return to Park.
  2. Recheck the transmission fluid level and add more fluid if necessary.
