Solution
1. Preparation
  • Tools Required: Oil catch pan, socket set, torque wrench, UV dye kit, UV light, rags.
  • Ensure the vehicle is on a level surface and the engine is cool.
  • Disconnect the battery if necessary to ensure safety.
2. Clean the Engine Area
  • Use degreaser and rags to clean the engine block and surrounding areas.
  • This will help identify new oil leaks more easily after running the engine.
3. Inspect and Replace Gaskets/Seals
  • Valve Cover Gasket:

    1. Remove the engine cover if applicable.
    2. Unbolt the valve cover using the socket set.
    3. Remove the old gasket and clean the mating surfaces.
    4. Install the new gasket and reassemble the valve cover, torquing bolts to manufacturer specifications.
  • Oil Pan Gasket:

    1. Drain the engine oil into the catch pan.
    2. Unbolt the oil pan using the socket set.
    3. Remove the old gasket and clean the oil pan and engine block surfaces.
    4. Install the new gasket and reattach the oil pan, torquing bolts to manufacturer specifications.
  • Rear Main Seal (if applicable):

    1. Remove the transmission (may require additional tools and time).
    2. Take out the old rear main seal and install the new one, ensuring it is seated correctly.
4. Test for Leaks
  • Refill the engine with oil to the proper level.
  • Start the engine and let it run for a few minutes.
  • Look for fresh oil leaks in the areas previously cleaned.
