Solution
1. Preparation
  • Gather necessary tools and parts.
  • Park the vehicle on a level surface and engage the parking brake.
  • Disconnect the battery to ensure safety while working on the vehicle.
2. Raise the Vehicle
  • Use a jack to elevate the front of the vehicle and secure it with jack stands.
  • Remove the front wheels using a socket set.
3. Remove the Old Tie Rod Ends
  • Tools Required: Socket set, wrench, tie rod end puller
  • Locate the tie rod end and remove the cotter pin and nut securing it to the steering knuckle.
  • Use a tie rod end puller to separate the tie rod end from the knuckle.
  • Unscrew the tie rod end from the inner tie rod by turning it counterclockwise.
4. Install New Tie Rod Ends
  • Screw the new tie rod end onto the inner tie rod by turning it clockwise, ensuring the same number of turns as the old one for alignment.
  • Reattach the tie rod end to the steering knuckle and tighten the nut to the manufacturer's specified torque (typically around 45-60 ft-lbs).
  • Insert a new cotter pin to secure the tie rod end.
5. Reassemble and Lower Vehicle
  • Reinstall the front wheels and tighten the lug nuts in a crisscross pattern to the specified torque (usually around 80-100 ft-lbs).
  • Lower the vehicle back to the ground.
6. Wheel Alignment
  • After replacing the tie rod ends, have a professional wheel alignment performed to ensure proper steering and tire wear.
